Meet Jack, from Jackocar
Hello, my name is Jack. I’m 25 years old and live along the South Coast, close to Bournemouth. I run an eSports league on PlayStation which uses the Formula 1 game but we integrate a number of NASCAR systems, formats and rules to create a hybrid league. We are the only league of our kind in the world.
Myself at ‘JACKOCAR’ and my friend Nick who runs a more conventional Formula 1 league called ‘OneHub Racing’ had some of our drivers compete in a 24 hour charity event at the back end of 2020. Amongst other teams, we were the only two leagues competing so it became competitive. As it happened, JACKOCAR won the event but me and Nick were keen to carry out a charity event of our own in the future.
We worked for months to work out what was best and we decided that the charity we should support, should be something relevant to draw more attention to it and help raise funds for them. We agreed on something based around the Black Lives Matter movement but we also agreed that neither of us, both white males in our 20’s, were best placed to choose a charity. We were keen for it to be a small UK based charity and picked one of our black drivers, Michael Okeke, to have a think about who we should support. Michael came back to us after speaking to friends and family and suggested Cowrie. We looked into it more and it fit perfectly. Cowrie were also great communicators and really getting on board with the idea allowing me and Nick to have more fun with it.
We organised, naturally, on the Formula 1 game, an event consisting of two 25% races with a reverse grid for the second race with me and Nick commentating over the streamed event. We had up to 35 viewers at its peak live and 221 total views to this point. A link to the event can be found here – https://youtu.be/5D2nYjFiclc – Along with the races, we had a commemorative t-shirt to go with the event bringing the two leagues together, united against racism worldwide. We sold a handful of these and took in a number of donations eventually raising £560 total.
JACKOCAR won the event putting us 2-0 up against OneHub. We imagine there will be a trilogy to this ongoing yet polite rivalry.
We would like to thank Jack, Nick and Michael for their support of the foundation.
